Come to Hy-Vee Market Grille in Urbandale for dinner every Monday night in the month of April to help support the Urbandale All-Inclusive Playground! When you join us for dinner 10% of your total purchase will be donated to help build the Urbandale All Inclusive Playground!
The All-Inclusive Playground is designed to provide opportunities for children of all ages and abilities (including those with disabilities) to enjoy using the equipment and participate in fun outdoor activities. The playground surface has a cushioned rubberized surface to help prevent injuries and has a completely flat surface to eliminate any barriers to wheelchair users or visually impaired participants.
There are over 20,000 kids with disabilities in the Des Moines Metro and most playgrounds do not give these children an opportunity to experience the fun and joy of being outdoors with their peers. With your support, Urbandale Parks and Recreation will build an extraordinary, one of a kind inclusive playground for children and families of all needs; enhancing the play experience for all metro residents. If you'd like to be part of the process or would like to donate, call our office at 515-278-3963.
Through the City of Urbandale’s Bridge the Gap Campaign, you can be a part of the All-Inclusive Playground (AIP). For just $300.00 you can choose a message to be engraved on a 4”x8” brick to be installed by the playground. Download the Engraved Brick Donation Form and bring or mail it to our office. You can also register and pay for your brick online. Simply follow the link and click "All-Inclusive Playground Paver" on the left hand side.
There are many different ways to become a donor, download all the forms here:
Learn more about the All-Inclusive Playground:
WHAT IS THE All-INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND?
The playground is designed to provide opportunities to children of all ages and abilities, including those with special needs, to enjoy using the equipment and participating in fun outdoor activities. The playground surface has a cushioned rubberized surface to help prevent injuries and has a completely flat surface to eliminate any barriers to wheelchair-bound or visually impaired participants.
WHY AN ALL-INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND IN URBANDALE?
Des Moines, Ankeny and Johnston are homes to All-Inclusive playgrounds, however, a playground like this does not exist for youth in the western suburbs. More than 20,000 children with special needs reside in the greater Des Moines area. The Urbandale All-Inclusive playground will offer access to this adaptive park feature to residents in the Western suburbs. We anticipate the reach will include these communities: Urbandale, West Des Moines, Waukee, Clive, Grimes, Granger, Johnston, Windsor Heights, Des Moines West Side, Adel, Cumming, and Perry.
WHERE WILL THE PLAYGROUND BE LOCATED?
The Playground will be located next to the Urbandale Miracle League field, in Northview Park. Northview Park is also the home of the Urbandale Little League complex, owned by the City and leased to the Urbandale Little League. View the animated fly-over!
HOW MUCH WILL THIS PLAYGROUND COST?
To build the playground, purchase and install the equipment, plaza, fence, lighting and other miscellaneous features the project will cost $560,000 to complete.
WHO WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DEVELOPING AND MANAGING THIS PROJECT?
This project will be spearheaded by the Urbandale Parks and Recreation Department and the Urbandale All-Inclusive Playground Committee, under direction of the Mayor, City Council and City Manager.
