Suburban Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T)

The Urbandale Police Department is a member of the Suburban Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.). This team is a collaboration with the police departments from Clive, West Des Moines, Waukee, Johnston, Ankeny, Altoona and the Dallas County Sheriff's Office. The mission of S.E.R.T. is to protect and save lives by maintaining and enhancing the member department's ability to respond to and neutralize special threat/response situations through ability and superiority in team training, specialized tactics, superior marksmanship skills, ballistic supremacy and specialized equipment. 

Special operations conducted by S.E.R.T. may include high risk search or arrest warrants, barricaded subjects, hostage rescue, or dignitary protection. The team consists of entry operators, precision marksman, crisis negotiators, tactical paramedics and two team physicians. The overall control of the team and assets is managed by the S.E.R.T. Chief's Council which consists of the police chief or sheriff from participating agencies.
